Students showcase their work at first Capital Art Fair Tshwane

Postgraduate students from Tshwane University of Technology's Faculty of Arts and Design will showcase their work alongside renowned featured artists at the inaugural Capital Art Fair Tshwane (CAFT). The event will take place from 5 to 7 April 2024 at Menlyn Maine in Pretoria.

CAFT 2024 aims to position South Africa's capital city as a leading participant in the global art conversation. Art enthusiasts will witness the evolution of Tshwane's cultural narrative in 2024 and beyond.

This unique opportunity will allow senior students to share the same exhibition experience as professional practicing artists and gain relevant industry experience, in line with Work-Integrated Learning objectives. The standard and quality of the students' work promises to put the TUT brand on the map of the South African art industry.

These artworks reflect the burning conversations that the young artists want to express to the world and also reveal the students' curiosity to explore the mediums of drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, glass and fibre arts.Chain of Events, the title of the students' exhibition, is a celebration of their everyday connections and interactions with each other, the institution and the City of Tshwane.

Visitors are invited to become part of this 'chain of events,' facilitated by the individual narratives embodied in the artworks, which demand to be seen and heard. This exhibition is curated by the TUT Department of Fine and Studio Arts’ Kutlwano Monyai, Artist, Curator and Lecturer, and Godisang Ogunbambi, Textile Artist and Lecturer.

CAFT 2024 has the theme of Intersections. It brings together different narratives, perspectives and artistic territories.
