The Moya African Glass Network warmly welcomes you to join the celebration of 30 years of glass at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) during the Glass Safari 2026, a significant milestone in the country's glass education history.

With the theme of Past, Present, Future, the Glass Safari will trace the story of glass art in Southern Africa, honouring its pioneers, showcasing today’s artists and investing in the next generation. The event will also champion international collaboration and a sustainable, eco-conscious approach to the craft.

The Glass Safari kicks off with Smelt Sessions (8 – 10 July), led by David Reade, a pioneer of the South African glass industry. The workshop will focus on the Graal technique, a specialised method of decorating hand-blown glass. Participants, who are mostly seasoned local glass artists and students, will be introduced to the technique during the week. They will also create an experimental glass piece using this technique, which will be displayed during the celebration day and at the Glass Safari exhibition at the Association of Arts, Pretoria from 25 July.

The 30-year celebration of glass will take place at TUT. The celebration on 11 July is open to the public from 10:00 – 12:00. Spaces are limited, so please RSVP by 8 July. To book, please email martli@moltenglass.co.za.
