The Tshwane University of Technology’s Advancement and Partnerships Office (APO) has embarked on a campaign to raise funds for the University’s Bursary and Scholarship Fund, benefiting the ‘missing middle’ students not funded by NSFAS.
Speaking on the campaign, Dr Eric Pule, Director at the APO, said the #ursupportmatters campaign aims to raise R25 million by the end of the year.
“Universities’ responsibility is to empower the next generation of leaders for the South African economy, society and governance through academic knowledge that works, as well as concrete and sought-after qualifications. While funding remains a challenge for many universities, TUT, the no1 contact university in Africa, has a particular duty to assist thousands of our students who do not qualify for NSFAS, and whose families cannot afford to pay either. This campaign seeks to address these issues. We are currently at R16 million and looking at raising R8 million more to reach our target,” said Dr Pule.
“Over the next few months, we will showcase and celebrate our Bursary and Scholarship Fund ambassadors, who support and contribute towards the fund. We will also share stories with you on how your contributions have positively impacted our students and communities.”
