Healing, Trauma, and Reconciliation through Co-design Practices Inspired by the "Telephone Game" Mechanism in the Post-pandemic Era.

This paper explores how to reconstruct the co-design method by drawing on the core mechanism of the classic game  "telephone game" in the context of remote collaboration caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The article points out that traditional co-design pursues the accuracy and fidelity of information transmission, while the "loss of communication channels" in remote environments exacerbates information distortion. However, the author suggests that this "information distortion" should be redefined as "creative variation" and regarded as a catalyst for innovation. This article systematically analyzes the mechanism of the "telephone game", including the inevitability of information transmission distortion, understanding bias in collaboration, and creative variation. It also proposes core concepts such as "information elasticity" in combination with the demands of distributed participatory design in the post-pandemic era. The article also demonstrates through the design education practice case in Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology (BIFT)how the "online telephone game" environment in the post-pandemic era can stimulate collective wisdom, promote non-linear collaboration, and ultimately build a more resilient, creative and adaptive collaborative design ecosystem.
