CODE: 3.21 1420
Deepening the Aesthetic of Ubuntu and the language origin, we take the concept to
the next level. CODE: 3.21 1420 tells the story of an endless que of people in a
government institution hoping to change the reality of their identities. This Absurd
Drama delves deeper into how the authority systems influence human behaviour. With
no character identity, the story describes the life of an absurd world where the citizens
make notice of how the system has identified them with numbers. The concept of
Ubuntu is applied in the harsh and inhumane ways the system subjected people,
making them difficult to remember them through their names and their backgrounds.
This illustrates the complexities of the lives of ordinary South Africans and how they
live in and with a system that subjects them to unhuman classification rather than just
a number. The play took an approach of utilising minimal props and costume to better
illustrate the idea of the world without people.
