BIOGRAPHY

Born in rural KZN to a traditional family, qualified as a Social Worker.  Driven by passion for social and gender Justice I pursued a Social Science degree followed by a postgraduate Degree in Gender and Development. My Career has been focused on women’s development and the attainment of Gender equality in various capacities.

 

I describe myself as tenacious, confident, I possess high energy and a passionate disposition and relentless determination to achieve goals that I set for myself or the teams that I have an honor to lead.

 

Pride myself as seasoned professional with 20+ years of experience, over fifteen years work experience within the Development Sector and Ten (10) of those years were spent in a public Sector (Government) environment focusing on Gender Mainstreaming. I have more than 10 years in senior/executive management positions and currently occupy a position of Divisional Head: Social Development and Strategic Interest Groups in the City Tshwane.

 

My role is to guide the development and implementation of human and social development interventions through a targeted focus on poverty reduction, food security, community self-sustainable programmes, social inclusivity, strategic interest groups empowerment and skills programmes. The job also involves building strategic relationships and engagements (within the City) and other stakeholders (including national, provincial government and other local authorities

 

Spent 10 years occupying the position of Chief Director in the Gauteng Provincial Government championing transformation programs (Gender, Youth, Older persons, People with Disabilities, LGBTIQ+ and Military Veterans) my responsibility was to lead the transformation agenda in the province and define the scope guided by the Sector policies.

 

Have served as a Development Cooperation Manager for the New Zealand Agency for International Development with a focus on grant funding and disbursement. In this portfolio, I managed operated in 10 countries in East and Southern Africa. The fund operated at Government, International agencies such as UNICEF as well as Grassroots NGO’s. The role specifically focused on developing and overseeing programme budgets, cash flows and financial approvals. This portfolio included representing and cooperating closely with other donor agencies to ensure complementary programmes in the countries where the agency operated.

 

Before joining the City of Tshwane served as a Board member, representing the Provincial Government at the Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO) which is a partnership between Gauteng Provincial Government and the University of Wits. The GCRO collects data and benchmarks on the city-region, provides policy analysis and support, undertakes applied research, and publishes critically reflective academic work.
